Takamine EF341SC Review – The Boss Can’t Be Wrong!

If you’re looking for an inexpensive, versatile acoustic-electric, the Takamine EF341SC is hard to beat.

Aside from both being proud New Jersey residents, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi have one other commonality. They’re both pretty big fans of Takamine acoustic-electric guitars, especially the EF341SC.

This is a guitar that seems to have it all – great tone, durability, and good looks. As many touring professionals can easily attest, Takamine guitars are tough but also sound and look great. This particular model is a long-time favorite of recording and touring professionals alike. Let’s see why!

Features
Underneath the standard black finish is a solid cedar top with maple sides and back. The bound rosewood fretboard is adorned with snowflake inlays, and the guitar also has a rosette made of concentric rings. Chrome hardware is standard, as is the CT4B preamp with 3-band graphic EQ.

Performance
The good news is that you can get the Takamine EF341SC in any color that you want. The bad news is that you have to want the color black. However, that might be the only color you want the guitar in because the black finish looks amazing, really stunning, regardless of whether you’re on or off stage. It’s true what they say. Black really does go with anything.

Few guitar makers have earned a reputation for amplifying their acoustics as good as Takamine, and the EF341SC is no exception. It contains the company’s CT4B preamp, which has a 3-band graphic EQ and built-in tuner. The EQ is very warm-sounding, and the tuner is quite useful (not to mention effective).

What would a guitar be without a sound to match? The EF341SC delivers in that department as well. It’s one of the finest acoustics in its price range that we’ve seen in a while. It doesn’t matter if you’re engaging in flatpicking or fingerpicking, the guitar sound great.

It has a versatile sound, so regardless if you’re a rocker or a country crooner, you could find something to love here.

The sound is rich and deep but can easily cut through a busy mix if you need it to do so. Both lead lines and rhythm work sounded very good. We used the CT4B in numerous settings (live playing, recording), and it excelled in all instances.

Playability is where the Takamine really shines. The action was wonderfully low and buzz free, even with some seriously heavy strumming. We were reminded why so many artists rely upon Takamine for their live performances.

The Bottom Line
When you consider also the included nice Takamine hardshell case, the instrument is a great bargain and plays and sounds like it should cost twice what it does. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, versatile acoustic-electric, the Takamine EF341SC is hard to beat!
